What is this?

I dug this plant out of our owner's garden, he swore it was Ceasar's Brother but with research I can see he is sorely mistaken! This is a bearded iris with a great fragrance and it actually does well in the armpit of Texas here so I am interested to find out what cultivar it could be. Please enlighten me if you know!

Dwarf Variegated Agave

This is the coolest thing I have seen a plant do! Our Agave desmettiana 'Variegata' started blooming in August 2008, the flower stalks are still there and now baby plants are growing from it. Now we can plant them and sell them as liners, woo hoo! They are variegated too so that is good because our crop in the lab has sadly drifted to green or yellow plants, boo hoo!

Spring is Here!

I am so excited that Spring is here. Everything is starting to flush in the greenhouses and in the garden. I have a picture here of our newest Nandina that will be part of the Southern Living collection. Nandina 'MURASAKI' or Flirt Nandina. It is a sport of Harbour Dwarf with very striking wine red flush, FUN!

PhytoToXiC

Well I thought the Trifecta of chemicals was brilliant, especially when I went into the greenhouse 2 days later and found no evidence of whiteflies. We tried a mixture of Orthene, Tame and Azatin. Killed the whiteflies but made some of the plants look like they have leopard spots!!! Live and Learn! Fortunately the plants are not getting worse and we did not spray that many since it was a new spray for us, in fact by next week we will hardly see any damage. From the picture it kinda looks like a new plant I found recently, funny!

New Plants!

Isn't it cool when you find a sport in a group of new plants that you have not even released yet? Pictures will come later but it is pretty cool if it stays stable. Being the plant nerd I am I nearly fainted when I found it, after recovering I proceeded to go get everyone I could find to come ooooohhh and ahhhhh over the new discovery. You know you have that new plant itch when you start thinking of a name for this new discovery that might not even be that great, LOL! This is the part of my job I love, the plant part.
